Our Mission

Our mission at Badge vs. Badge is to promote the development of the sport of amateur boxing throughout the state of California, the U.S. and the World. Badge Vs. Badge will give boxers in Law Enforcement, Firefighters, and Military the recognition and support they deserve.  Badge vs. Badge is dedicated to seeing our participants reach the height of their potential through self confidence, integrity and sportsmanship.

For the first time, Law Enforcement, Firefighters, and Military both male and female will have the opportunity to fight for a Sanctioned Title Belt and be ranked under the IBA International Boxing Association.

Our Team

Gary Shurley, Founder & CEO Boxing/MMA, Sales Director, Promoter

Originally from the Bay Area, Gary’s background is Nicaraguan, Irish and Cherokee Native American.

Gary started in the fight game when he was 16 years old. “I love anything to do with fighting including a good old brawl.” Gary has been coaching for 30 years, AKA Coach, AKA Doc, AKA Ball Peen Gary. He’s been running a Boxing Crew at Roseville PAL since 1995 and still coaching. “I love the MMA. These guys are the best of the best. I feel very connected to the fighters because we are a breed apart from the norm. My dad once told me there are two kind of people. There are herd bound which are the followers and the talkers and then there's the mustangs like us, they don't like rules and they take chances, they're not afraid to fight or bleed.” Gary is not one to sit and relax, he’s out hitting the streets and looking for action. “I run a tough crew. I love enjoying life with family and friends and meeting new people and I'm always willing to try something new. I was also taught to never think you are better than anyone. I don't have much but I have my word and my integrity.”

Chad Shepherd, Vice President

Chad Shepherd lived and worked in Roseville since 1985, USMC Veteran of Desert Storm, Shield and Stay. Grew up as a wrestler and a boxer having a father as a college wrestling coach for University of Colorado. Certified as a massage therapist Northwestern College. Professional MMA fighter and Certified MMA Fitness Trainer under Coach Kevin Kearns. Began martial arts training while in the Marine Corps. He holds a purple belt in BJJ under Carlos Valente, a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, a 4th Degree in Kenpo under Dave Kovar., He has also been in 7 independent films, and 1 one SAG, Windtalkers starring Nicholas Cage. Chad is the author of a book called Sensei Mom / Sensei Dad, and the Producer/Creator of a childrens safety video Power Kids.
